Arkema Announces a Partnership with EOS in Additive Manufacturing

Development partnership  was annaounced at The Formnext Tradeshow held in Frankfurt (Germany) from 14 to 17 November 2017

The global 3D printing market was worth US$ 15.9 billion in 2016, and is expected to grow to US$ 35.4 billion by 2020*, driven by strong growth in industrial applications.

Against this backdrop, Arkema is pleased to announce that it has entered into a joint development agreement with EOS, a world leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, to develop novel high temperature powders (Kepstan® PEKK) adapted to their latest platform, EOS P 500. This agreement is part in particular of the development of industrial applications directly with end-users and of benchmarking additive manufacturing vs. traditional processing technologies such as injection molding and stock shape machining.

Additionally, Arkema will present, at the Formnext tradeshow, its full range of advanced materials and innovative solutions for prototyping and small series technical parts manufacturing. The Group boasts a unique position, with a product range covering all printing technologies: laser sintering, stereolithography, material jet printing, and the FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) technology.

PEKK Kepstan® is the latest addition to the PAEK (Poly-Aryl-Ether-Ketone) family, and is ideally suited for metal replacement thanks to its very high service temperature, chemical resistance, and excellent fire retardancy. These attributes, coupled with its mechanical integrity, have already made Kepstan® PEKK the material of choice for additive manufacturing in particular in the aerospace industry.

Rilsan® PA11 is now chosen by more and more companies for their additive manufacturing projects thanks to its unparalleled mechanical strength and durability. Arkema has developed a specific range of 100% biosourced polyamide powders, under the brand Rilsan® Invent, resulting from the synergy of their exclusive chemistries and decades of powder expertise. Key features of these materials include excellent processability, exceptional impact resistance, better ductility, USP Class VI compliance, and deep matte finish.

Sartomer® UV curable systems, known under the brand N3xtDimension™, constitute the new generation of engineered solutions for additive manufacturing. Along with a top quality resolution, these innovative photocure resins are developed to meet SLA (stereolithography), DLP (digital light processing) and MJP (multijet printing) challenges, in terms of processability, high mechanical performance and durability.
